What label printer to use for Whatnot

Whatnot’s label is a PDF in one of two sizes. Letter paper is the default. A thermal printer wants 4×6, and Seller Hub will keep handing you letter size until you change that default.

8.5×11, or 4×6

Whatnot’s label article says labels come in 8.5×11 inches for a standard printer and 4×6 inches for a thermal printer. Packing slips use the same pair of sizes. The default for both, in label settings, is 8.5×11. That default applies to every new label.

You print Whatnot’s prepaid label. You do not buy a separate postage label unless your account is approved for Bring Your Own Label. The barcode has to be the one Whatnot generated, or tracking and payout can stall. How the postage was priced is in shipping for sellers.

Set 4×6 before the stack prints

On whatnot.com, open Shipments in Seller Hub. Open the sidebar before you open one shipment. Under Default Label Options, set the shipping label format and, if you want slips on the same roll, the packing slip format. Set the return address there too. Whatnot says the return address cannot be changed after a label exists.

If a label is already Ready to Ship in the wrong size, change the default, then regenerate. Whatnot says regeneration is one shipment at a time: edit the shipment, save, and the new PDF uses the size you just set. Pop-ups have to be on. The file is a PDF, from Print or from Export Shipping Label / Slips when you are printing a batch.

Export can be labels, packing slips, or both. A letter-size slip behind a 4×6 label is how a short show becomes a thick stack of paper. Match the slip to the printer you actually have.

A thermal printer is a 4×6 printer, not a brand

Whatnot does not require a thermal printer. The help article says you need access to a printer, and names a print shop, a borrowed printer, or a thermal printer once you ship regularly. Any of those can print the PDF.

Buy a direct thermal printer that takes 4×6 inch labels if the show is large enough that ink, letter sheets, and cutting are the bottleneck. Set that printer’s paper to 4×6. A letter printer is the right tool if you ship a handful of orders and the default PDF is what you want. This page does not rank models. The fit is the paper size Whatnot already offers.

Phone-only printing is the gap. Batch export lives on the web Seller Hub. If you do not have a printer at the table, Whatnot’s own suggestion is a print shop or a shipping counter, then the same PDF.

Questions sellers ask

What size is a Whatnot shipping label?+

Whatnot generates labels as 8.5 by 11 inches, which is the default, or 4 by 6 inches for a thermal printer. Packing slips have the same two sizes. The default applies to every new label until you change it in Seller Hub.

Do I need a thermal printer to sell on Whatnot?+

No. Whatnot says you need access to a printer, because labels are PDFs. A home printer on letter paper works. A print shop works. A 4 by 6 thermal printer is worth it when you ship often enough that ink and letter sheets are the slow part.

Why is my Whatnot label the wrong size?+

The default label format is 8.5 by 11 inches. Set Shipping label format to 4 by 6 inches in the Shipments sidebar before you generate labels. A label that is already generated has to be regenerated, and Whatnot says that is one shipment at a time.

Printing is not the shop.

nothub is an independent workspace in development for Whatnot sellers. It does not print labels or connect to Seller Hub.
